As the quarter comes to a close, several display transitions are underway:

  • Brickmania Display Cycle: The Monster Trucks collaboration wraps up its run at the end of March, with teardown scheduled ahead of BrickFair Fredericksburg. Looking ahead, “Wicked” builds will take over from April through June, bringing a fresh and visually rich theme to the display.

  • Potomac Mills Cubby: The current CMF go-kart display remains in place, with discussions underway for the next rotation—potentially a Mad Tea Party–inspired build following BrickFair.

Club Updates and Operations

March included a few key operational updates:

  • Finance Team: The club ledger will be updated to reflect recent purchases, ensuring transparency around new shared resources.

  • Media Team: Updates to the club’s domain and online presence are in progress, supporting NOVA-LUG’s continued growth and visibility.

Collaboration Progress

Several major collaborations are reaching milestones or evolving into their next phases:

  • NPS Mosaic and Habitats: Matthew and Tom are leading ongoing development, with frame test builds helping refine standards and improve scalability for contributors.

  • Fantasy Collaboration: All eyes are on its final “swan song” at BrickFair Fredericksburg, with Tanner, Timothy, and Ben coordinating the last major showing of this long-running project.

  • Fairfax 250 Collaboration: Ben R. shared updates as planning continues for this historically inspired build, which is steadily gaining momentum.

Major Events and Community Engagement

March is one of the busiest months on the NOVA-LUG calendar:

  • Awesome Con (March 13–15): Hamilton and Benjamin are leading participation in this major convention, showcasing builds to a wide audience.

  • Claude Moore “Battle of the Bricks” (March 14): Another opportunity for members to engage with the community and share their creations.

  • Mary Riley Styles Library Event: Alison is coordinating this outreach effort, continuing NOVA-LUG’s strong presence in local libraries.

  • BrickFair Fredericksburg (March 26–29): Final preparations are underway, with a draft layout already shared. The group also held a “BrickFair 101” roundtable, offering tips from experienced members and answering questions from newer participants—helping ensure a smooth and successful event for everyone involved.

  • Townhouse Display Retheme: Members discussed a St. Patrick’s Day refresh, considering both design ideas and available display space.

Activities and Presentations

March featured a mix of education and hands-on fun:

  • LEGO Inside Tour (LIT) Presentation: Ben R. shared insights and experiences from the LEGO Inside Tour, offering a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most sought-after LEGO fan experiences.

  • Parts Draft – Dreamzzz Stables: Another well-attended parts draft gave members access to unique elements while fostering collaboration and creativity.

Monthly MOC Challenge

The group wrapped up one challenge and launched another with a broad creative scope:

  • February Challenge Recap: FebRovery! Members showcased wheeled and tracked vehicle builds during Show & Tell, followed by a builder vote and prize for the winner. The variety of mechanical designs and creative vehicles made for a strong showing.

  • March Challenge: Gaming! Builders are encouraged to create scenes inspired by video games, board games, or other gaming experiences—ranging from mosaics to minifig-scale builds. As with recent challenges, designs are ideally suited for library display cases, reinforcing the group’s outreach focus.

March’s meeting captured NOVA-LUG at full speed—balancing large-scale event preparation, collaborative milestones, and creative exploration.
